340 Drug Pricing Program

The Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA), a division of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), administers the 340B Drug Pricing Program.

This program began in 1992 as a way to help non-profit healthcare organizations stretch their limited federal resources by providing medication at a reduced cost. In order to participate in this program, eligible entities, including federally qualified health centers like Capstone, may register with HRSA/OPA and be listed on the 340B database.

Once assigned a 340B identification number, covered entities may begin purchasing medication at 340B prices. Studies indicate that savings under the 340B program can range from 15 to 60%. This savings is then passed on to the customer.

Medication Counseling

Our Clinical Pharmacists provide medication use support and clinical services. Staffed by a Doctor of Pharmacy, Capstone Health patients are offered medication counseling and patient education at each visit.

Medication counseling provides patients with information about their medicine to ensure they understand how to use it properly. It can also help patients learn about the medication's side effects, how to store the medication, and how to make lifestyle changes to accommodate it.

The goal of medication counseling is to help patients improve or maintain their health and quality of life. Patients should feel free to ask the pharmacist any questions about their medication.
